Best Stove Top Apple Crisp to Celebrate Fall

Fall is officially here and my favorite part of fall is Apples, NOT pumpkin spice everything. I love cooking with apples almost as much as eating apples raw. This post is all about a simple, stove top Apple Crisp recipe that I made at the Warren Farmer Market.

Apple Crisp is dish full of contrasts. I love how the tartness of the apples is tempered by the brown sugar and how the cinnamon provides a nice warm background spiciness. The crunch of the topping is offset by the soft texture of the apples. For this recipe I used mixture of  McIntosh and Jonathan apples to provide a balance of tart and sweet apple flavors.

My grandfather could peel an apple with his pocketknife producing a continuous strip… I didn’t do as well.

Last week at the Warren Farmers Market, Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership released the Warren Community Food Security Strategic Plan which  outlines the challenges Warren, Ohio faces as a food desert and actions the community and government can take.  Local TV media was present for the event and here is video segment from WKBN.  At about 16 seconds in you can see me cooking this Apple Crisp recipe at the Market!

The recipe is divided into two parts, one for the crunchy topping an one for the apple mixture. Just mix them up separately and combine them in the end. This recipe was adapted from one of my favorite blogs Iowa Girl Eats.
